What greeted her wide-eyed stare was most certainly not what she had expected. Tall and broad and golden, the stranger stood out against the uneasy gray sea behind him as if an artist had taken to painting a dramatic shaft of light that glowed before her very gaze. He was much taller than her, but that was not wholly unexpected. She'd seen quite a few tall horses since accompanying her mother to the land of Solomon descendants, but she had never seen a creature that was both tall and broad.
He seemed shocked that she had noticed him, which struck her as strange because she couldn't fathom how she had missed him. They stared awkwardly at each other for a moment as he made his apologies, Amalia's heart pumping anxious energy through her chest. The little roan was well aware of how dangerous this land was, but she had wanted to risk it if only because this was also supposed to be the fastest way to find a home. She didn't want to sit around hoping to find a herd-minded horse in the Meadow. She'd tried that already and it had gone precisely nowhere.
Risky or not, horses came to the Commons to either find a home, or find residents for said home.
"I suppose that depends," she finally managed to say when the silence that followed his offer grew too awkward to bear. "You need not leave if you intend to offer me a home, stranger." She tried for a smile, but even she could feel it trembling at the edges.
"My name is Amalia," she offered helpfully, trying to channel her mother's diplomatic spirit. Her mother always had the perfect words for every situation… so long as they didn't mention her father. "Where are you from?"
