Hurt had followed Hirka every day since she had left the Prairie. Although born on Atlantis, the open grassy lands called to her heart. She knew it was her true home. But just as she had told Zevulun (having wanted someone to know the truth of what she was doing), Hirka had taken her youngest to the Crossing to help find her a match. Eriana needed to make that next step in her life, and Hirka wanted her to do it safely. Although once they had gotten to the Crossing, Eriana seemed to become too shy to talk to anyone. Making them stuck in the Falls and Meadow for seasons to come. Hirka’s pride too strong to let her return a failure.
When a call pierced the quiet around them, Hirka pauses in her grazing but doesn’t life her head. That voice was too familiar, too deeply ingrained in her memory to mistake it for anyone else. Eriana clearly recognized it too. The pale girl, only a different shade of champagne than her mother, stood the same height now, and quickly lifted her head with ears perked and a few green stems falling free of her lips. “Dad!” She called happily, leaving her mother’s side to lope over to her sire without any reservation. Despite their own differences, and the argument that left them islands apart, Hirka had never once spoken illy of Castillon to his daughter.
Lifting her head now that Eriana had darted away, Hirka watched idly where she was as Eriana pressed herself happily against her father. Although she didn’t find it strange he hadn’t come for her; not with the way they parted. But she did find it odd he hadn’t tried to find out what had become of his daughter.
