It was only through sheer force of will that the ashen lips of the Arabian did not part to bare his own teeth at the intruder. His countenance remained mostly fixed to what it had been before: steely resolve. Truly the thought of Akkadian choosing to remain with this creature unsettled him. However, the boy would be a full-grown stallion in his own right by then and free to choose whatever path he might follow. Nothing he said would change what might be in Kade's heart.

It had been this inkling of a thought -- that and Kade's age -- that made Helios play for spring. It was time he played for: time to help fortify the boy's mind toany tricks this monster might come up with to bend him to his will. Together perhaps he and Mazikeen could work to strengthen the boy's resolve to retain his willpower and to fortify the contemplative presence that lay beneath the veneer of boyhood.

"If Akkadian chooses to stay, I will not force him to come home. He will be his own man by then. However," -- his dark eyes met Lucifer's crimson gaze head-on, refusing to back down -- "you know full well I will come for him otherwise. I will come on the spring of his third birthday so that he may voice his decision in the presence of his father."

The resolve to not bare his teeth was wavering in the heat of his anger. The thought of Lucifer forcibly keeping the bay colt a captive set him aflame. "If you force him to stay or if I learn of any manipulations to do just that, you render our deal null and void. So help me, my son will come home."
