Mushroom had lingered for far too long in the shadows. Like her namesake, she preferred the damp shadows against the tree line over the sun-soaked meadows. The only issue was, loathe was she to admit it, Mushroom was lonely. It had been a self imposed thing, something she'd done to herself. She'd slunk away from her mother as soon as she was able and had decidedly not returned. She didn't know if Fearne noticed, or cared, but Mushroom had never worried. Even now her loneliness is not for that of family or comfort, she just doesn't want to be alone. It didn't even matter who it was. Even that stinking mud-soaked stallion had been better company than no one.
She chewed her lip, standing at the edge of the Commons. Up until this moment she had remained in the shadows. A wall-flower, no, a wall-mushroom. She was not a dainty and delicate flower waiting to be plucked by the first boy who smiled at her. She was reclusive and her mousey speckled coat was not as eye catching as others. And she was happy for that, truly. She was not going to fawn over anyone and she was certainly not going to go quietly.
But she still wanted to go.
Regardless, whoever dared approach she was not going to make it easy for them. Her defiant personality had to have been inherited, she assumed, from whoever her father was. She knew his name, and that was about it. She didn't even know the walking clump of mud she'd met had been him, even if he had a certain familiarity to him. With a stomped hoof and a loud snort, Mushroom stepped into the light. She flattened her ears at the sudden light, snapping her tail against her speckled haunches with irritation. And with a scowl, she stalked into the Commons. |
