GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors

weep for yourself my man
you'll never be what is in your heart

While Jasper had been quick to volunteer himself to watch over Aura and the twin girls - his nieces - and was grateful Scarecrow had come with him, it had been so difficult to leave Khan. Even knowing it would be temporary…he had not liked to leave his heart behind. He had to, though.

To be reunited again was… everything... but Jasper was wrestling silently with guilt… though he had told Scarecrow he would always love Khan, he realized he had become fond of the kind black and white stallion during their time away. Even pressed up against Khan in the cold nights, he sometimes found his gaze wandering to the nearby bodies, looking specifically for Scarecrow’s. His heart lamented, wishing to press himself between both men, but knowing he was horribly selfish for wanting such a thing and fearing how either of them would react if they knew.

As Khan spoke into the early morning, Jasper’s ears flicked back to catch his words and he felt himself briefly flush with heat as if Khan had caught him doing something wrong. It took him a few seconds to shake the anxiety and concentrate on what the buckskin paint was telling him. Once realization caught up, Jasper snorted with a stern argument just as Khan lightly brushed his lips over Jasper’s cheek. His blue eyes skipped over to catch Khan’s dark gaze. “I love you,” he said, swallowing back the bitterness in his throat, the fear that what he was thinking lately was wrong.

“What if we both skip patrol this morning?” He murmured after a moment. It wasn’t like him to shirk his Guardian duties, but the morning was cold and he was suddenly afraid to leave Khan’s side. “We can play hookie,” he suggested with a little more of a playful tone.
