I too was a Cyprus vet but not with the LFs. I was there at the same�time,at Kermia Camp just outside Nicosia on the Nicosia Kyrenia Road but with the Irish Guards. Also at the camp was 'Big' Paddy Doyle who later worked in the medical room in Quebec Barracks OsnabruchPaddy was a famous. or perhaps infamous Irish Guardsman His claim to fame was that, in the words of the News of the World,He went AWOL to join the army. He wanted to join the Lancashire Fusiliers and he succeeded too.I too wanted out of the Guards, I was fed up with Public duties, Bull and being called a woodentop. I wanted to join a proper regiment but i decided to do it the legal way. On return to UK I started putting in a request for transfer every Monday, and every week it was refused. Eventually the PTB must have got sick of hearing the name Parkes and the transfer was granted. Wellington Barracks was where i was sent and I reported to CSM Frank Burrows and Major Lloyd Jones who� was OC.I soon settled in and a couple of weeks later I was posted to Quebec Barracks� Osnabruch�and eventually� completed 22years with the LFs Im 85 years old now and still the right side of the grass
