I dont' write to advise you--only to truthcheck you. I write to the couple others who remain in here still in radio---but they dont talk about their careers, so I just assume they're like so many in radio...with frozen careers. Can't imagine a morning guy wasting time here.
You're locked in your judgmental notions and past learning anything useful, Jim, which is why you are still working from your dining room table if you really still are.
Were you ever actually IN radio, or did you just sell it? It was kinda fun if you've never done anything else more fun.
The world's full of sales people, and actually you have one skill to persuade and close sales. You can sell anything; my observation is that selling cars and radio tend to be for entry level objects and the real money makers are to sell things that have a better return. Real estate, investments, medical equipment.
Broadcasting talent is nitch industry that anybody can do with very little training--the use of the voice which everyone has. Comedy, well thats a real talent. Researching and writing skills are better than reading aloud other people's writing. Like most news people, I mastered the delivery so I stayed doing what I did best and it crossed me over to TV.
Another problem with radio, even TV, is that you don't learn specialties well enough to earn a living by making them.
Radio no longer even does news and thats why I left--made easier by me having worked in radio AND tv operations at KAKE and KSN--both good stations in a market perfect for journalism. Kansas City never was that. Today's radio here is just a formatted music box and like TV here, just focused on the look and sound, not learning enough to cross trained into a new skill set. Lotta TV reporters went later to lawschool, or PR. My predecessor, Tony Percell was an aviation reporter at KSN...he did a series at CESSNA learning how to fly. Got his license and when he got bounced for making a million dollar mistake on the air, he started flying for a living. What a cool break that was!
Dunno where broadcast people go after they disappear fm here. Maybe they just went to other markets. Maybe that's why this room doesnt' talk about the business...only about the coming and goings of bosses and the corporations.
The biggest news in radio in here seems to be what genre of music they play; tehy don't talk about the music. Actually they didn't really talk about much of anything in here.
Used to be we could at least get a report on the ratings but everyone's gone from here. As far as You're concerned, this is just a medium for you to vent your own envy, jealousy, and other emotional pettiness. You dont' even talk about advertising or your experience in building profits for your customers. Maybe you should have been a shrink; lots of crazy people go into psychology to help them understand themselves. But you do need to develop empathy to help your patients...maybe you're too judgmental to help others.
Hypocrisy isn't just about religion and virtuous values, its more fundamental than that. Its about condemning others behavior for the same things they themselves actually DO. Like criticizing thieves when ya cheat on your own taxes. Or criticizing other politicians when you're in that business yourself to enjoy the perks and not have to work too hard to get them.
ITs about behavior.
As to your constant repetition about envy and jealousy, well you dont know me well enough to know if those are my maladies. I don't write about them, so how can you know except to assume your issues are mine!
Ugly people may have envy abt pretty people or poor people about rich people.
Winners vs losers, well thats something about comparing one person's successes to another and you seem to be quite fixated on those. That's your problem not mine.
The only regret I have is that at age 70, each birthday after that keeps adding a year rather than subtracting one so we can enjoy life and be healthy for another 70 years. Thats not how it works, of course. I just dont like seeing people my age and those on TV I grew up with dying...thats just a reminder we're living in Act IV when we're approaching 80.
Intead of reading psychology quotes out of a book msg after msg, tell us what YOU have learned in your many years about yourself, not about others you only know superficially.
That's something you've never done all these years--well in here anyway. Is it because you didn't learn anything about yourself, only about others as you imagine them? And why you're always insulting me, I dunno. What bout your ex wife instead? Or people in the news? You never even talk about Trump, so far as I know. Everyone knows about him. Now we have to have him in our faces for yet 4 more years! Sigh.
What I'm saying is that maybe you should focus what time you have left on your family, unless all you have in life that you enjoy is needling me. I presume you got a grandkid or few. They're way more fun than you lecturing me every day about hypocrisy, jealousy and envy. Those are really your issues, not mine, don't ya think?
