Ever so slowly the mare started to relax the more they spoke. She hadn't realised how much she missed this simple act of conversing with another.
Listening carefully she took in every small details, no matter how relaxed he appeared or how her instincts were telling her that he was genuine, in the back of her mind she couldn't drop her guard completely,
Her ears perked when he mentioned taking her to somewhere safe, unable to stop the hope briefly flashing in her eyes seconds before the shutters of indifference came crashing down. Inside her heart fluttered at the mere thought of being able to stop running, of somewhere safe where she wouldn't have to be on constant alert for danger, where she might actually be able to get some proper rest. These 2 years of solitude had left her nerves fried and her body and mind shattered.
She attempted to once more reign in her emotions, something she was struggling to do.
Attempting composure but having no idea if she was succeeding or not she asked the question burning in her mind, the question that had the power to unravel every little partical of hope within her.

Taking another deep breath she tried again to centre herself and close off her emotions. Will..Will they accept someone who.. She paused, once more trying to reign in the turmoil of emotions someone... who.. doesn't look like them?She said finally. Her shutters were broken, her emotions racing through her body whilst she waited for his answer. Fear and hope waring with each other at the prospect of being so close to what she wanted - being somewhere that didn't judge her for her spots - but afraid that even if he told her yes she would ultimately be kicked out. She wasn't sure she could survive another rejection like the one she received at only a year old, from the very people meant to accept her no matter what Replies:
