give me darkness when I'm dreaming; Posted on January 21, 2025 at 05:57:21 AM by Arroyo
Arroyo has never really thought of a particular land as belonging to him. He, like all others, regardless of what titles they might bestow on themselves, is a temporary steward. In the case of the Ridge, Arroyo had seen a stallion who he perceived as bad, and he had taken it upon himself to uproot the dark beast as one would pull a weed. But even now that the Ridge is under Arroyo's stewardship, he's not sure his actions were justified. Who is he to pass down judgement on a stallion he does not really know? Arroyo and his family could have settled elsewhere. Yet, the red dun had taken it upon himself to usurp Lucifer and plant himself as keeper of the Ridge knowing full well the target he has painted on his small family in doing so.
These thoughts keep him from sleeping on nights like this one, so he wanders the jagged cliffside overlooking the sea. Moonlight plays on the waves like the winking of a thousand eyes. In the Harbor, Arroyo had often stood in that penumbras liminal space where treeline fades into openess, watching the ocean with deep, mysterious longing.
Here he is now, on a slightly different strip of shoreline, but the longing for the unknown is not there so strongly. He does not think so strongly of escape as he does on how to stay.... how to deserve the space he has made for himself in the world. This is also an enigma. But perhaps the whispering of water against rock will reveal something to him, or, at least distract his weary mind. Replies:
