meet me there where it's never hopeless

The mare's ears flatten into her mane, clearly showing her objection to his attention as the stallion intercepts them. She bares her teeth, black and white satin lips peeling back to reveal enamel. Her blue eyes scan him briefly; however he is unfamiliar to her. Not one of the Lagoon men she'd seen in the last year. It does little appease her anger at his interrupting their flight. Saphris tucks into her hip opposite him, hiding from the silver-pelted stallion.

"Away," Emerson hisses in his direction. The sound of his amusement curdled her anger as he remained in her way. She means to turn from the buckskin, circumvent the obstacle he'd made himself out to be. That is when he offers Paradise as an alternative destination. Paradise, a land that bordered the Harbor where she'd last known her older brother to be. The words accepting his proposal had been on the tip of her tongue when a Lagoon brute interrupted them.

Her blue eyes flash like daggers even in the dark of the storm, first glaring at the goon and then the silver buckskin. The spotted stallion might have caught her, but she felt the buckskin was to blame for holding her up long enough for the goon to catch up. She ignored the first comment the spotted man spewed, but the tovero wheeled toward him when he called her a flower. As if there were anything delicate and demure about this daughter of a legend. It is Garmr's intrusion that interrupts her move to strike at the man.

Emerson despises the large sabino, almost spitting her vehemence at him. This hatred amplifies when she is equated to property. The only thing that kept the tovero from launching herself at the Lagoon boss was the safety of her daughter, that and the words Garmr now directed at the one who had first halted her escape. 'Annubis' he had named the silver stallion, who he seemed to know. Suspicion flared within her as the mare turned her head to look at him. How in league was he with these brutes who kept her captive? Had he stopped her to gain their favor?

She waits to see if he will barter for her, the unknown mare and her daughter, though she expects him not to.
