Re(2): Bixente? (NOT Benny’s fault)

I understand the frustration bettors will feel about any last minute scratch. But in this case I don’t think the way it went down is Benny’s “fault” in any way. For as long as I have known about jai-alai, the decision about whether a player scratches or plays has always been up to the player. For a regular (non tournament) performance, would a players’ manager maybe advise or “strongly suggest” that a player scratches due to an injury situation….sure. BUT….this is the tournament. Bixente EARNED his spot there, and since the injury happened before his tournament game, I’m sure Bixente was hoping that he’d be better and ready to play his first round game. Even if it wasn’t looking good, he was probably hoping each day that he would be able to get out there. And I’m sure what Benny did was allow Bixente to see how he felt each day right up until that night. Isn’t that the right thing for him to do considering that Bixente DID qualify for the tournament? It’s unfortunate all around and especially for Bixente. He tried his best to be able to get out there….as is his right if you ask me. The speed of the recovery is unknown. But I don’t think you can blame Bixente for trying to go or blame Benny for giving him the chance to see how he felt and to have all the possible time he could to potentially play. Ultimately he could not but he deserved the chance to have up until game time to evaluate if he was able or not.
