how could i fear any hurricane » canis / any bay lead

When the musk of a strange stallion was first tasted on her tongue, the bay mare had assumed it was a passerby or a new guard. The latter seemed a tad unlikely in her opinion, but still it was a possibility. When the new scent clouded over Raegar and there was still no show of his presence, Sinaet had promptly fled north with the two youngest of her brood. She wasn't sure what could have happened to Raegar. Fear for the stallion had crept into her heart.

The two of his children she'd produced stayed close to the mare as they left the arid reaches of Salem far behind. The boy, Khaànmanak, was insatiably curious about everything around them; it was all so very different from the lands they had left behind. Impera, her wing-marked daughter, had gone quiet as the miles passed. The stubborn, mouthy nature of the girl had slackened and gone flat. Her seafoam eyes constantly drifted south, as if her father would come bounding from behind to bring them home at any moment.

Sinaet had breathed a deep sigh of relief when finally the three of them waded through the shallows of the northern island. The Bay: she had lived here for a time with her two older children. Canis, her eldest, had been third under Fell and still retained his position now under Fell's son Emhyr. There was always pride in her heart for the silver-haired boy who had struck out alone from the Desert those years ago. Hemming, her first daughter, stayed here as well, more often than not. It would be an optimally timed reunion with Khaàrnmanak old enough in her eyes to make such an arduous journey, even if the circumstances were dire.

A whinny passed from the white mouth of the mare, echoing like a clear bell inland toward the lower foothills. First she would find Canis or one of the other leads to grant them refuge here. Then.. the heart in her chest quavered. Then, perhaps the bay dun could start trying to figure out what had happened to her mate.
