that it will never come again
is what makes life so sweet
Deirdre cannot hide the worry on her face and she hangs back as they reach the beloved dun, allowing their children to swarm around him with affection and questions first. He is here, and he is smiling, which should be answer enough but it isn't until he confirms it verbally that Deirdre lets go of the breath she'd been holding. It would have been enough for Arroyo to return home whole and safe, but to know that he has achieved his goal and can - in theory - rest, eases some of her concern.
"Congratulations," she murmurs, even as Sionainn cheers and bumps his neck with her muzzle, overjoyed to hear about her father's victory. Dei's lips quirk into a smile as Naoise also seems to congratulate his father and her heart feels fuller than ever. It is sad without Aventuras and her brood with them, but she understood that they had other matters they needed to deal with now. At least when the tobiano and the other half of their family returned, it would be to a place they could call home.
He mentions staying in the Prairie another night and Deidre nods, though she has no great feeling one way or another. Everything that was important in her world was here, and where they ended up did not matter nearly as much as the fact that they were all together.
"I'm sure we can introduce ourselves once we get settled," she answered the dun's comment about the Harbor, understanding his hesitance to uproot the family. She would not pretend to understand all of the motivations that he was dealing with as a herd stallion with the weight of a family upon his shoulders. It was enough to know that he had balanced his want for a homeland against the comfort of an existing family, and she was content to leave it at that.
Arroyo goes on to explain that Lucifer was not a good stallion, and Deidre frowns. There were plenty of stallions that weren't necessarily kind, but for him to warn the children of the stallion implied he was far more dangerous than the usual uprooted herd leader. Her bushy tail flicked against her hocks and her gaze turned toward their children appraisingly, hoping that each of them would take the warning to heart. Sionainn was already frowning like her momma, her head tilted inquisitively.
"Why is he bad?" She inquired, ears flicking to and fro.
"What did he do?"
