Tulip had not found her mother in Paradise. And if you asked her the name was a mistake. She had found nothing but sadness and disappointment there. She'd been even more of a prisoner than she had been on Tinuvel. At least on the island of her youth she had been afforded some freedoms. The stallion had mostly left her alone after claiming her, which she supposed was a good thing, but she also had not made any friends among the herd. Tulip had been lonely, though she was not about to admit that to anyone. When the claiming call of another had burst forth in the early morning, Tulip had leaped up from where she had been sleeping. Eagerly, she had found the stranger. And when Sigurðr did not come forth to meet the other stallion's challenge, Tulip took it upon herself to leave. She had turned and run for the shore as fast as she could before she plunged into the chilly sea. The cold temperature was a balm on her Tinuvel-born heart and she swam as fast as she could to the mainland.

Unfortunately for her, she had effectively worn herself out. When she finally trudged up onto the coast of the Crossing her chest heaved with exertion and her nostrils flared with each haggard breath. She shook the water from her coat as best she could, ignoring the way it glued her mane and tail against her skin and trotted deeper into the Crossing. She was eager to put as much distance between her and Paradise as possible.

Only when she had begun to dry and she felt enough time had passed, Tulip felt comfortable enough to drop her head to nibble at a bit of grass. She chewed numbly, trying not to let her guard down, but her growling stomach had other plans.
