So distracted by her victory, the cream-splattered mare failed not notice the approach of the stranger until a pair of hooves filled her field of vision. Citrus's sage-green gaze rose, tracing slowly along lean legs, up and up across the dark wall of his chest, until at last their eyes met, hers wide with wonder as she drank in the sight of him. He was like the night sky come to life - cloaked shadow and stars, his inky coat peppered in pale specks of light and the moon a crown upon his head. To the young mare's travel-weary mind, he looked as if he had stepped from the heavens themselves.
"Hi," came her breathy greeting, her lips curving into an amiable smile as she pulled herself to her hooves and shook the sea-soaked sand from her coat. "Yes, I've only just arrived, actually. I was starting to think I'd never find this place." An airy laugh fell from her pale lips, gaze sweeping over the sun soaked meadow that unfurled behind her starry-coated companion, greedily drinking in the sight for several long moments. So long she had spent on her own, slowly resigning herself to the possibility that the islands would never make themselves known to her. Disbelief still lingered as she turned her attention back to the sooty stallion, eager to take advantage of the opportunity for companionship that his presence offered.
"My name is Citrus. Do you live here? On these islands, I mean." A soft heat rose in her cheeks at the silliness of her question - of course he did, why else would he be here? Citrus's gaze flicked away briefly in an attempt to conceal her embarrassment, a soft cough bubbling from her lips. "Is it true that every island is different?"
