It seems a bit early for this - and the ground is covered with 4 feet of snow - but I have seen some decidedly spring behaviours this week. A female common merganser was swimming in the Muskoka River, North Branch. I saw 50 mallards flying north in a flock. There were 3 swans in the river in Huntsville late last week, tucked up on the shore with their heads under their wings, seven crows flew over yesterday (we don�t have crows in the winter typically in Port Sydney). And this morning I heard a downy woodpecker drumming. Do you suppose it�s going to be an early spring? Hard to believe after this crazy snowy and cold winter!
