That was very interesting. Watched the whole thing.
I think the long-time jai-lai fans - who are what, 98% of all JA fans? - had many plus factors pulling them in.
The sense of jai-lai being vital and thriving, with many locations.
Validation thru newspaper and even radio publication of results. (Palm Beach Jai-Alai highest paying daily tri shown on local TV news)
Huge crowds with audible enthusiastic reactions on every shot.
Wagering advantage from knowing the biases of Spec 7 while the bulk of the betting competition did not.
Wagering advantage from huge pools such that your own wager did not significantly damage the price.
Admiration of acknowledged superstars.
And so on.
Which makes the interest of newer fans such as Jatna and Nate all the more significant.
The future for jai-alai won't exist without new fans, so working out what appeals to them is essential.
A few plus factors we might have in today's era that didn't exist before might be:
Better, more engaging announcing.
Watch at home video in decent quality, including replays.
Stats and PR material accessible online.
Fan websites, discussion boards, live chat, Youtube videos, TikTok, etc.
Personally, I think there's an opening for some kind daily of meaningful YT pre-game analysis, even if if it were AI. Some YT reactors have had tremendous success building followers, so who's to say that a charismatic presenter couldn't eventually gain traction as well?
