My Quick & Dirty analysis Posted on May 3, 2025 at 01:07:44 PM by Tiger
You vets probably know I'm usually trying to figure out how to beat the favorite, but not this year.
Journalism is legit. Currently running at 7/2, he's well worth win bets. My cutoff on betting favorites is usually 2-1.
My overall approach - find a horse's best recent race, and decide if he's in condition/position to do it again. I look for:
Per race winnings, e.g., running/finishing in higher class races
Recent good workouts
Recent good races, preferably at the local track
An experienced jockey, and, of course,
All that breeding stuff
Now, for the skinny:
The low posts will blow it all in the first quarter, with the well-placed Journalism and Burnham Square able to slip in comfortably behind.
Adding to the closer types (with plenty of time to find their grooves) are Sandman and my key longshot Tiztastic.
