Re(3): Today's negotiations

You really don't know what you are talking about, do you? When negotiated into a contract or decided upon by an arbitrator when that is the defined process for settling disputes, it is absolutely possible that one of the decided issues could be whether you are allowed to hold outside employment - be it for another employer or a business in your own name. Whoever told you that such restrictions about what you do on your off time are not legal or plausible, was sadly mistaken. There are many fire service contracts out there that do exactly that - require the city/employer to approve all side employment activity. The firehouse kitchen table lawyers may tell you different, but do your homework before coming on here and attempting to flex your mistaken "they can't tell me what do to on my off" muscles.
