There's one thing I can say about your belief that is probably objectively true.

I believe that in general, the lower-ranked players over the years have had a lot more shows than you might expect using a basic simulation model. One with player ratings that are derived from their WPS records.

I don't think anyone has ever come out and directly addressed this. One problem is that you would need a simulation to work out just what their theoretical WPS record should be, given their overall success rate.

So first you would have to establish that more-shows-than-expected IS, in fact, happening, and then you would attempt to discover why.

Q-based jai-alai is likely to go extinct before anyone ever does this, owing to having only a handful of people equipped to investigate. Well, that plus an ever-diminishing incentive to do so.
