It was stupid of the Arabian to keep his heart so prominently on his sleeve. Helios knew that by now. In another life, he had promised to never hold himself back. It would sound like a naive promise to anyone who heard it here, but it had meant the difference between life and death then. And someone else had suffered the consequences. Now, with Nyimara standing before him ready to fight Lucifer herself, the weight of his vow weighed heavy on his mind.

He couldn't deny his obvious attraction to the Desert Queen. It had been obvious from the first moment Helios had seen her materialize from the landscape. He never acted on those baser motives past a passing compliment. Yet Helios always wondered if he imagined the tension between them. Even if it was a fanciful thought, his inclinations toward her were certainly swaying him now. Her almost affectionate tug on his mane didn't help.

Helios wanted desperately to be secure in the Queen's abilities, to not fear for her as he did at the moment. It made sense for her to get firsthand experience against a newly presented enemy. However, that also meant Nyimara would be putting herself precisely on Lucifer's radar. And he didn't like that much. The copper male kept pace with the silver-haired lead, still seeking to caution her. "He's a towering menace, Nyi. I don't think a head-on approach is the best idea here."
