He listens intently as Deirdre tells him of the mare and the Lagoon. She tells him of the
guilt she feels for not having done enough, but his own guilt has crawled up his throat like burning bile.
He should have been there. What if it had been their girls? What if it had been Deirdre herself? He would have thrown himself against every stone to get them back, but the fact remains: He should have been there.
Blinking hard he presses his for head against her neck and gently sighs.
"I'm sorry," he says, pulling away to meet her eyes. "I should have been there, and I'm sorry, Deirdre." It's an unfair standard to hold himself to, but it doesn't matter. Deirdre holds herself to unfair standards too.
"Do you want me to try to find her? Maybe she's okay..." And if she isn't? Replies: There have been no replies.
