GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
whispers in the tall grass

Slowly, the hills of the Prairie gave way to open fields and meadows. In the distance, he knew lay the river that followed out toward the sea. The river opened like a braid into a many-stranded tributary the closer you got to the saltwater. It was things like these about the Prairie that Lir loved and appreciated.

Recently though, the sable man realized he wasn't getting to share things about his home as much as he thought he would. The bulk of the Prairie's residents had left with Castillon and Zevulun. Some others had decided to try other herds on the islands. Only three of the original band had stayed. Lir had hoped that Vernonia and Ironweed, their daughter, would have returned by now. Yet they remained out of his reach.

The Prairie's numbers had remained small. It hadn't displeased the splash overo stallion. He had grown up in a tight unit in his first year of life. Then Zevulun had shown him what herd life could be like. Was he wrong for wanting to follow that same path? Was he wrong for wanting the Prairie to remain standing as a pillar of peace and stability as it had under his foster father? How then could he accomplish that be remaining stagnant? It had to change. He had to change.
