where we drift and call it dreaming

The wind continued to toy with Isolde's mane as she stood motionless beneath the sparse canopy, the dry rattling of leaves and the low roll of thunder filling her ears. For several long minutes she enjoyed the solitude, her rapidly beating heart calming to a steady rhythm.

Then, a rustle from somewhere in the forest behind her. The whisper of dry leaves disturbed underfoot, followed by the quiet, steady thud of hooves against damp earth. Isolde immediately became alert, her pale lids springing open, her head swiveling so she might set eyes on the source of the sound. A stocky stallion wove his way from the depths of the forest, his coat as pale as the moon, strikingly similar to her own. He moved with ease and grace - a fact that surprised Isolde, given his sheer size and bulk. She was not unused to being in the presence of stallions several hands taller than herself - her father, after all, boasted an impressive height - but never had she seen someone so... robust.

He stopped short of the clearing's edge and leaned himself casually against a nearby tree. There was something vaguely familiar about him, but Isolde couldn't place where she might have seen him before. She would have remembered someone like him, she thought, so she dismissed the idea out of hand.

'Do they speak to you, as well?' he asked as he came to a halt, his voice a rich baritone. Isolde blinked owlishly at him, then composed herself and let out a soft, airy laugh that drifted through the space between them. "Yes, I like to think they do." She murmured, glancing upwards at the swaying branches of the half-bare trees. "The trees are good company, and have much to say if only one listens closely enough. But sometimes the company of another is far more appealing."

At this Isolde turned her gaze back to him and offered a bright smile, shifting her weight so she might lean incrementally closer to him. "Especially the company of another during a storm as strong as this one is looking to be." Isolde motioned with a sweep of her petal-pink nose towards the shore and the dark blanket of clouds that settled over it, heading steadily towards them.

The curiosity was plain on Isolde's face as she once again focused on the ivory stallion that had settled next to her. "What brought you to the Crossing today, stranger? If you don't mind my asking."
