Blackthorn had made this journey more times than she could count now. Since her first departure from the Lagoon, traversing the island to the Peak in search of her long-absent parents, she had largely wandered alone. But always, she was alert, and that was true enough today, as she browsed for food, the long grasses of the Meadow and the safety it would afford her not much more than a dozen long-legged strides away.
She picked her way along the edge of the Commons, catching a glimpse of a figure nearby, maintaining a polite distance for now, but definitely keeping pace with her. A few moments later, having swallowed her sparse mouthful of grass, Blackthorn moved on, venturing a few paces before she acknowledged the other horse for the first time. "You're following me," came the soft spoken accusation, a moment before she turned her head to pin the horse shadowing her with a slanted blue-eyed stare. "Well, are you just going to keep staring, or are you going to say something?" It was a tease, she'd not given them a chance to say anything.
Pivoting gracefully, she turned to face the stranger, tucking her chin and arching her neck, ebony ears swiveling forward. "Better decide quick, I'm not the sort to linger in one place long, and besides..." She took a small step backwards, trailing one forehoof through the dry grass, before straightening her leg with a feigned stomp of impatience, and a snap of her inky black tail. "I might have better places to be." |
