A black head slowly peeked out from where the two year-old boy had been hidden. Eyes still drowsily hooded, he left the little thicket he'd tucked himself into earlier. Rhodius had just recently woken up from the nap that had followed after a few hours of exploring the chilly hills of the Inlet. His tongue twisted in his mouth as the black champed, working over his teeth to chase away the taste of sleep. A sniff contracted the dark satin of his nostrils as Rhodius walked aimlessly forward.
The Inlet was so different from he had first lived in Salem. Instead of desert, red rock, and cacti as far as you could see, there were hills and forest, thick with needled firs and pines, dusted-- at least for the moment --with snow. Winter still a ways away, but the seasons could shift quickly here in the north. Rhodius had been excited about winter.. after finally growing in a passably thicker coat. Snow had been an unexpected and fun surprise. So had the other youngsters he'd met.
One of them called out now, shouting: "Come play!" Dark ears pricked forward at the sound of her voice. It was Sara; he could tell. A sense of excitement perked him up, fully driving away the lingering sleepiness. The snowflake-marked boy trotted forward to meet her, looking around for the girl whose voice sang happily along happily to made-up tune. Rhodius enjoyed how upbeat Saraswati was. Even though she couldn't see, the bay dun never seemed to be weighed down by it. She'd only just stopped singing, lips pursed in a pout when Rhodius finally walked up to her. Close now, Rhodius laughed and ventured to lightly tease her.
"You're a little impatient today, Sara."
