airén

Airén feels like her head is on a swivel, with how keyed in she is to her surroundings. She doesn’t think it’s excessive–not the sort of obsessive, paranoid vigilance that her sister tried to instill. It’s just that there’s so much. So many other equines, so many fascinating scents and sights. So she notices the young stallion quickly approaching her, even though he doesn’t seem to notice her. In fact, she watches him closely as he draws nearer – he seems distracted, not aggressive, which is a relief. She’s not really up for a fight, and with a quick glance around she reconfirms that she didn’t accidentally cross into the Commons or the Lagoon like an idiot. She does not want to deal with some trumped-up testosterone filled stallion intent on dragging her to his backwater home.

Fortunately the stranger is interesting to look at which means Airén hasn’t set off in the opposite direction yet. Instead, she watches him, her bright blue eyes intent. She does wind up side stepping when he comes within touching distance, huffing out an annoyed breath. He’s immediately tripping over his words, apologizing for his lack of attention. If Airén were nicer she’d accept the apology, maybe flirt with him a bit. Especially when she sees just how shy he is, when she sees the way his wide-eyed, innocent gaze flickers over her face in clear appreciation. Airén returns the favor, although her flickered glance is calculating and then dismissive, rather than appreciative. He’s boldly marked like she is, although his coat is a rich bay rather than the inky blackness of her own. She tells herself to behave, to start off her first interaction here right, but she is ever her mother’s daughter, and acerbic words come easier than all others.

Airén murmurs, “Do your eyes not work?” with a cock of her head.
