Good Morning Geoff
As I'm sure you are aware, the LF Web Site was originated by the late Capt (retd) Joe Eastwood BEM, back in 2002.
It was established by Joe, because he came to the realisation that the Lancashire Fusiliers were slowly, but surely, being forgotten following the amalgamations of mid 1968. Sadly, driven by the hierachy at the Tower, it is still happening to this day. It would appear that only matters relating solely to the RRF are considered to be of interest. The antecedent regiments are being pushed further and further into the world of the past, and considered as being of no further interest.
As you will note from a post lower down these strings, the Fusilier Association North is undergoing fundamental change, and will very soon no longer exist as we know it. Again, driven by the Tower, the Fusilier Association will be replaced, and all matters will go on line, and be represented by individual 'groups' akin to Facebook communities.
Everything is currently in a large melting pot, and I foresee that in the not to distant future, the celebration of antecedent Regimental Days will be seen as very anachronistic and irrelevant, and thus dropped from the annual calendar. The likes of Gallipoli Day, Minden Day and other such Regimental Days will fade into history. When was the last Inkerman Dinner held in Bury for example. Mark my words, it's going to happen.
Sadly, but for one, it's a fact that their are no known surviving nominal rolls for the LF's. Other than a nominal roll for the LF's involved in the Boer War, no others are known to exist.
For many years, Joe Eastwood attempted to compile a nominal roll as at Vesting Day 1968. Whilst it contains a good many names it remains incomplete. Again, Joe tried to establish who was the eldest living LF, but could never do so due to the lack of documentary evidence.
Occasionally, a previously unknown very senior LF, will appear out of the woodwork, usually following a death.
From those in contact with the LF Website, it would appear that you yourself, and Maurice Taylor are currently our senior LF veterans.
Should anyone wish to challenge my comments above please do so.
Geoff P
