The dunskin overo was wandering, his confidence growing little by little, day by day. His mother had said he had to stay within the sight of one of the adults, which he had agreed. Stormy had tried to go with his older brother, but Tino had the grace of a beached whale. He’d tried playing with him a few times but the colt didn’t seem to know his own strength, or where his own hooves were, the younger colt had got irritated with his older sibling too many times to count.
Stopping in the middle of a clearing he glanced back, to his mother who wasn’t paying him any attention, she’d seemed tired but was still standing, at least for now anyway. Closing his eyes he tipped his head towards the breeze, taking in the sounds and smells that carried on the sea breeze. He could smell various things around his home but nothing worth taking note of, he could hear the sounds from the shore, the caw of a few birds and the rustling of leaves on a nearby tree. All was right with his little life right now.
Opening his eyes he glanced around the clearing, ideally wondering where Calanthe was. He knew they were related, somehow.. cousins or something he forgot but he had grown up with the filly. Stormy was much more serious than her, she always seemed to be chasing butterflies or the likes of. That sort of thing didn’t interest the colt, he wanted to be a herd leader like his father someday, his mother was often telling him he was too serious and he should just go have fun, that his young years would be gone before he knew it but the colt strived for perfection in everything he did. He wanted to get things right the first time and like order, was that so bad? He didn’t think so.
Lifting his head he let out a call, mainly for the filly but he’d wait to see who answered him he guessed.
