To whom this may concern ....

I hope this message finds you well. My name is Andrew Johnston from Brisbane. I am currently undertaking a non-fiction book project exploring the 27 March 1943 crash of the RAAF C-47 aircraft at Archerfield resulting in the death of 23 victims and its broader historical context for Australian aviation history. As part of this work, I’m seeking assistance from members or historians associated with No. 36 Squadron to help shed light on Squadron involvement—particularly around the commemorative service held at Archerfield in 2001.

The purpose of the book is to honour the lives lost and ensure the story is told with accuracy and respect. I believe that contributions from those connected to 36 Sqn, whether firsthand recollections or archival material, could deeply enrich the narrative—especially regarding how the squadron marked that significant anniversary.
If there are relevant photographs, records, or personnel who might be willing to share their insights, I’d be grateful for any guidance or introductions you could offer.

Thank you for considering this request.

Warm regards,

Andrew
