Even when it's Mahomes, Brady. You are just not going to score points when your QB gets drilled every 5th passing attempt. And is pressured every 3rd attempt.

Then he starts hearing footsteps and rushing plays even when he does have time. It just fucks with your head to get hammered by the likes of Graham, Grant, Moore, et al multiple times.

In Howard's case, it also literally fucked with his head.
