I agree 100%.
Unforced errors have always been Zulaika's undoing. Specifically, not keeping the ball in on shots. He only made one of those errors on Sunday and it made all the difference.
Meanwhile Goixerri made a number of errors in both games and most of his drop shots and short inside placements were woefully high and easy to get to.
Goixerri had an arsenal of shots at his disposal but used hardly any of them. He preferred to throw it back hard to Ubilla. But Ubilla was a frigging wall that day and nothing was phasing him. Not even the few absolute fireball counter-shots coming his way. Well done Ubilla!
People might blame Aratz for dropping the ball or getting smoked a few times but I blame Goixerri for most of that. He let the points go on too long, just as I warned not to do in another post. He probably thought Ubilla would crack and be the weak link, like in the past. But guess what? Nope!
Ubilla seems to have mostly sorted out his crowding and bumping issues. I am very happy to see that because to me, sportsmanship always comes first. Good job Ubilla!
I honestly think that if Urrutia and Nicolas had played on Sunday the way they played on Saturday, they would have won. Still, Urrutia is getting better and better on this court. He may be the #1 front-courter someday.
Ubilla must have been in a low energy state for the 7-0 Benny/Douglas game, or perhaps Douglas just has their number. I will have to go back and watch.
Looking forward to Battle Court tomorrow! Replies: There have been no replies.
