Ok, what I suggest is that we subject the eyeball test to a sniff test and also a reasoning test.
If we took the top 10 well-informed believers in "Aritz is a more complete, all around player than Erik", how many would predict that Erik could go into Miami and win 47.8% of his serve points against Goiko and 51.2% against Lopez?
My guess is none whatsoever. Probably expect him to win 1 out 3 or so.
So that's the problem. If your entrenched beliefs can't predict the future, and actually compel you to deny it ("What were they playing for?"), then how credible are they?
FWIW, issues like this are why I went to the extreme trouble to tabulate those figures. If you think about it, probably not one person on Chalk Talk would expect those numbers.
Objective truth, whether we like it or not.
Finally, IMO Aritz probably is better, but not to the degree that it appears 99% here believe.
