You're saying things above your pay grade, Jim, you're a selective reader.
I left the media because (1) I got bored answering the phone on the Assignment desk, (2) there was no upward mobility where we decided to stay in this market, and (3) it didn't pay enough to put two kids thru good, out of market universities. I got better paying jobs quickly without leaving the market where there were only 3 TV stations. Besides, turnover's historically high in television and late in the career is no time for instability. In the media, I wasn't the top income earner in my family anymore, so I deferred to her career choices and better retirement rewards. Dunno, did TV stations ever start contributing to people's retirement plans? THey never did at my level. Broadcasting never invested in their human resources other than some college help and even that was somewhat rare. We did ok without your approval, Jimbo. Only a couple people at KMBC lasted, the rest moved to other markets or got out for whatever reasons. TV news is simply a niche industry with no more than 3-4 potential employers. People actually IN broadcasting know that, even if you don't. Anyway when did you leave KFDI anyway? I think even THEY sold!
