Other factors aside, I think that both inflation and random posts have been the silent killers of jai-alai betting.
If we take a cynical Machiavellian perspective, then we want to leverage the tendency of gamblers to over-remember their big hits while conveniently downplaying the many intervening losses. To do that, you defo need to provide some big hits.
Putting the top stars in posts 1-2-3 works against that. So does inflation. A comparison of median tri payouts from Bridgeport golden era to the end times of Miami in constant dollars might be revealing.
That's why the comment made by poolman re MC's Jai-5 is on point. The parimutuels need to provide at least one outcome that creates a buzz. That big winner event probably carries over to the people who witnessed it as well. Without it, the jai-alai betting experience defaults to the dreary reality of mostly losing to the takeout.
