Shoot the arrow straight

Assassin sighed as he watched the red spotted colt spiral, at his age emotions were a hard thing to control and understand. He’d already lost so much and those Assassin’s word had meant to be bring him comfort they seemed to be doing the opposite. He closed his eyes, feeling like what ever he said to the boy was backfiring.

Realizing that being more at his height wasn’t helping the large male slowly dragged himself off the floor, as he considered what next to try he listened the colts words, seemed guilt was eating at him anyway. He step forward, keeping his head low as he attempted to very slowly approach the frightened foal, step by step giving him every option to step away should he wish to.

Listen Luca, guilt can eat at you even when you’ve done everything right. Your young and I know none of this makes sense right now, it might never make sense. Let me ask you, how would you have continued to search for her? The water is dangerous even for an adult horse, you would have been in danger had you tried to go in to look for her, most likely lost your life. Staying on the beach puts you at risk from the elements, the weather can change quickly and you’d be at risk from the occasional predator that does turn up every now and then.

He wasn’t trying to scare the foal but was concern he might be doing that, he wanted the foal to realise the danger he could be in if he tried to look for her. Wanted him not to waste the gift his mother had given him.
Do you think your mother would want you to risk your life? Or do you think she’d want you to survive and grow up to be the stallion she’d have known you could be? He asked gently, having slowly moved closer to the colt he stopped and extended his muzzle like a peace offering, wanting to comfort the colt but know he could only do that if Luca allowed it.

He pulled back slightly at the colts next out burst shaking his head No, no Luca you misunderstood me, I’m not trying to get you to replace her, I would never suggest that because its simply not possible. She will always and forever be your mother, no one could ever replace her he said. He was screwing this up even though he was trying not to. He was or at least had been what his name suggested, an assassin, a mercenary, a solider, admittedly he’d had no choice in the matter having been born into a herd that did that kind of work, he’d been not much older than this little one when they’d taken him from his mother to begin his training.

My only reason for bringing up the peak, the place where the mares live is they would be better equipped to help you with a food source, provide you with milk if that is what you still needed. That is something that I can’t help you with. I was never suggesting that you find a replacement mother. I’m sorry if you misunderstood my meaning little one he said gently, one month stretching his neck slightly, wanting to offer the colt comfort.
