Won’t Argue With A.I., but……….. Posted on October 11, 2025 at 06:39:06 PM by Stu Neiman
So - I will try to keep this short. We completely understand that Tues and Thursday afternoons are not great times if you are looking to build PMW fan base / betting. HOWEVER our business plan changed. Years 1 through 3 tried to maximize days and times and wagers with PMW in mind. The response was declining revenue in each year following the pattern seen amongst ALL U.S. Jai-Alai frontons seen since (roughly) 1998. I did read the other post about how PMW wagering is not declining according to AI but I’m not sure what parameters it included. If it were asked is PMW wagering, interest and income declining in the U.S. I don’t understand how the answer can be anything more than a simple “yes.” If asked about Jai-Alai specifically what other possible conclusion could there be?
For M.C it was never a question about “promotion,” free admission, parking, seating, upgraded seating for a reasonable cost, other entertainment between game, all forms of media advertising. Now while the Jai-Alai community was “generally” offended by the new format this community and we have been talking about attracting new customers / a younger demographic for 20 years. Hence our aggressive social media efforts which have paid off in terms of “subscribers and views” which are the credentials all new media judge you by.
Of course none of this takes into account the effects of the COVID shut down. So it wasn’t about talent in 2021 because Miami had Goiko, Lopez, Aritz, etc and only the most die hard fans came leaving to an attendance of what, 20-30?
So in looking “forward” we plotted a different track. All new media, the team format and a “Sports Wagering friendly” format which started as the set based head-to-head format and is now Battle Court.
In terms of schedule for both views and wagering we believe that it makes sense for a niche sport to be scheduled when established sports are not playing. In terms of PMW on those days, that ship has sailed and it’s best for the players to play both on the same day while limiting their potential for injury.
