Lucifer's sardonic reply draws a low chuckle from between Mazikeen's lips. "You and I are similar in that respect, then." Except Mazikeen had never been kind to anyone, ever. Indifferent, yes. Aloof, most definitely. When needed, she was amiable at best. But outright kindness, or empathy, given from the bottom of her heart? Never. Kindness, she found, was weakness. It allowed for exploitation. It was a soft spot in armor that would otherwise be impenetrable. Mazikeen prided herself on her imperviousness and her utter lack of empathy. No doubt some might see her as a frigid-hearted hellion, and they would be right. But it was that lack of caring that had gotten her where she was today: a queen at the side of one of the most tenacious stallions on the Islands.
Her comment about Helios seems to draw something from the black brute, his lips curling in a wicked grin. Mazikeen's expression turns curious, first, then shifts quickly towards mild surprise as he informs her that Helios' hold upon the Dunes has come to an end. There is no stopping the pleased glimmer that sparks to life within her eyes, her lips curling coyly.
"Oh? What a shame." Her tone is thick with sarcasm. There is a certain sense of satisfaction in knowing that Helios has lost the Dunes. It feels like cosmic justice, doled out by some unseen, unfathomable entity, for his transgressions against their son. She cannot say she pities him in any capacity - as far as she was concerned, he deserved every bit of misery that came his way. That he was no longer the king he once was, and had been made to slink off and kowtow himself to Nyimara felt even better than knowing she had pulled the wool over his eyes in regards to Cambion's true parentage.
The dry crunch of dessicated leaves fills the air as Mazikeen shifts her weight. "If Helios no longer holds the Dunes, then who does? I would love to know so I may personally commend them."
