It was a fun project, but the time has come to close the board...Dec. 31 will be the last day in operation.
Thanks to everyone for all the sightings, photos, and Q&A posts over the years. I've also appreciated all the feedback and encouragement to keep the Muskoka Bird Board going - now 28 years since startup. Message boards and listservs were considered an exciting new thing back then. Wonder what "artificial intelligence" will bring us.

I think it may be time to "retire" the Bird Board. There is very limited use now and I don't like the ads which appear all over the place. The message board was a great way to share bird and other nature sightings around Muskoka when there were no other online options. Now there are plenty of ways to share observations, such as iNaturalist, eBird, rare bird alerts on Discord, and many Facebook groups to choose from.

I have kept this message board free of ads for many years, but unfortunately it has become too costly to continue with that option. There are now too many AI bots searching through all the data they can find on the internet, including this message board. This causes the ad-free views I purchase to be used up very quickly and I can't stop that. So fairly soon you will see advertisements when visiting the Bird Board.
I do not control what ads will appear on the message board and there is no way for me to preview them. It is probably best that you do not click or tap on any advertisement since I cannot guarantee that it is "safe" to do so. The message board hosting service receives all revenue that may be generated from these ads, not me.
I will not be shutting down the board unless the number of ads are just too distracting and ruin the whole experience of using the board. We will see....

The Muskoka Bird Board is a place to share reports of birds and other nature sightings in Muskoka and surrounding areas. You may also post a question about birds or birding in general. You don't have to include an email address in your post. Remember to include the location of your sightings - even the nearest town or major crossroads would be fine.
