I shoudl have mentioned that my post was just a response to Drew's post... this is the problem with this page. Not many people are here Jimbo sticks with is pseudo shrink-speech unless he's the one that changes his handles with every post also.
Drew's just not the sage analyst he thinks he is. Dunno who habitually trashed him for his youth but it wasn't me. I actually admired him in past years for jis bravery to stick to media topics and not just roll over for us old fossils who trash each other all the time. JIm and I aged out years ago, me because i left radio in 1980 or so, jim because he was always just an independent buyer without a lot of media resources in kc.
Dunno if this room died because of us or because of radio corporate policiies but radio's been a music machine pretty much since I got out. And I havent listened to it much since I moved to TV and left the entertainment side of the business... thats when radio dumped journalism and it no longer appealed to me.
BZ held out but my conclusion was that except for them, the KC market was just considered 'properties'. All the radio people in it until then had identity and personality. but when they werent allowed to be personalities anymore, just liner readers, well a lot of big markets did the same. Now in a smaller city, seems like if there IS any joy in radio, its in smaller markets without all the pressure to perform. I'm sure those IN it can explain it better, but none of them do, at least on gateway.
Anybody sampled Amazon MUSIC? Unlike iheart which is still about radio stations, I kinda like it being more music oriented, like Apple Music. My kid older than most likely readers in here says nobody listens to radio, everyone like him subscriber to a music service.
Since I dont' know anything about the few participants here I get little useful reading in here..which I suppose is why there are so few commenters. And the others like mid Ks, Mo and Stl are long time dead and buried. Illinois board is still pissy like this one always was.
I presume they've scattered out of the industry, or at least Gateway's markets. Does that have to do with gateways threads we've followed, or does it match when radio ownership went all corporate, all the time? Its been so dead in here I can't even remember when it died. I havent seen a system operator in here since I left the industry. Replies:
