Annubis knows that the approach of stallions are usually met with suspicion and disdain. Hell he has faced his fair share of venomous glares and bared teeth in the past. It is almost expected. To see the welcoming smile on the mare’s russet features is a welcome sight.
Relief swells within his chest as the beast rumbles a gentle, appreciative nicker and closes the space between them. ”Thank you.” he breathes, sidling nearer to the woman to share in the dead grasses her digging had uncovered.
’...My name is Uprising… it’s nice to meet you….’ The sweet sound of her voice draws his golden gaze and the sterling beast lifts his snow-dusted muzzle from the mouthful of grass to tilt his broad crown towards her. ”Uprising..?...” he repeats, tasting the flavors of the syllables on his tongue. ”That is quite a unique name. Far more interesting than my own.” he muses, swallowing the mouthful of grass before bobbing his head formatively. ”My name is Annubis. It is a pleasure to meet you and share these delicious morsels, Uprising.” he finishes with a lighthearted chuckle.
She continues on to explain that this feeble patch of wet, yellow grass was the best that she had come across here and the sterling wolf bobs his head in understanding, a grimace ghosting across his features. How horses on the other islands managed to survive through winter on this crap is beyond his understanding.
Fearful that she might misinterpret the emotion on his handsome features, the stallion offers her an apologetic, lopsided grin. ”Sorry. I’m not used to this. I live on Atlantis so it hardly ever snows or even gets cold to be honest. Kinda why I’m so glad to have come across you today. I fear another few hours alone and I might have turned into a horse sized icicle.” he finishes with an overly dramatic look of horror. The laughter that soon follows is genuine as he gives his snow-dusted forelock a shake, his bright eyes gazing at the mare beside him warmly. ”Have you heard of it before? Atlantis I mean. Not my name. I doubt many know it.” He finishes with a rakish laugh. Pathetic? Absolutely. A horrid attempt at flirtation. Effort? Yeah. At least it was an attempt at conversation. She couldn’t fault him for that right?
