Read my posts, I've addressed that here, correcting Jim's bitter feelings about the world not rolling over to help HIS kid. I didn't use my regular handle when I was correcting him. But he's never met me and he's been pisssed at me for years for throwing meltdowns as a board member of a volunteer KC amateur radio station, when he demanded their donation station install and elevator in the radio station for HIS KID, presumably because Jim was on the board. But not for long. That was the conversation you missed and he ignored. Fact is ALL of us have handicapped people in our families, in one handicap or the other. His kid apparently an adult, was wheelchair bound. Those aren't the ones who can't survive...Americas fallen over itself to help those who cant walk. Witness vehicles and buses, sidewalks and elevators in 2 or 3 story bldgs, wide toilets for wheelchair bound.
But the vast majority of people with special needs aren't about being unable to walk. they are people with mental deficiencies. We have learned this year that the ratio of children with AUTISM on the spectrum is no longer 60 to 1, its now 26 to one! Thats one child in every class. The diagnosis tools are much better now. The specific issues are wide. We now know that many young kids who can play Chopin on the piano are in fact on the Autism spectrum. Used to be we just called anti social kids slow, or backwards, but we know better. Before 1978, these kids were kept out of school, hidden away in corners. But the federal law changed all that, forcing schools to provide free and appropriate educations to them, regardless of their maladies through age 18. Trump will screw people who are starving, or cut school lunches, but he has NOT cut Special Education even tho he's threatened to cut the Dept of Education which enforces those special rules for exceptional children.
I know a lot about this because I was a journalist back when those rules had come out but schools were slow to respond. Things are different now, in part because of reporting like mine and many other media outlets back when the media actually funded investigative reporting.
Dunno who you are unless that was just Jim baiting me. I have no problem talking about many things. Special Ed kids. Cancer Kids. Elderly forbidden to end their lives by law (Remember Suicide assisting dr Kevorkian some 25 years ago...jailed for facilitating suicides for people who had no ability to lead an acceptable life.
And of course the whole abortion issue which I covered backin the 70s...young women and girls are dying because of the religious nuts who force state legislatures to make it impossible to get a DNC when the child they're carrying has died in the womb. Do you have anyone in your ancestry who died of a botched abortion before it became legal...and now ISN"T!
There are lots of issues I know about and all media reporters do. Don't beat up on us messengers who tell you about the controversies...DO SOMETHING TO FIX THEM INSTEAD! Go beat up on FOX NEWS who provides their ignorant viewers with half truths that make life HARDER for us all even tho easier for the Billionaires who dont want to pay their taxes. Badmouthing health care for All because it's (GASP!) SOCIALIST!!!
What side are people ON in this country? We in the media have dumbed America down and it happened when President Reagan allowed corporations to take over the media...corporations only interested in PROFITS, not serving the public interest!
I"ll get off my soap box in HERE, but that's what I do on the internet in places that have REAL audiences! Then there are MAGAt jackasses, crooked presidents, and jerks here who call others 'losers' because they aren't greedy enough to talk truth, as opposed to separating honest people from their money!
I'm actually glad to be out of the media now...I can't stand to watch what's happened to real journalism as I learned it 50 years ago. Replies:
