Maybe being an alarmist is one of the things reporters are coached to being because we go out and dig up stuff and make it sound as serious and emotional to the reader/viewer as possible. Kinda like, if its boring, it's not news.

Nobody does that better than the 3 TV networks now, following ABC's Tabloid TV hair on fire reality news at dinnertime.

They've crossed the line from journalism to entertainment now that Disney bought ABC, Paramount bought CBS, and some cable company bought NBC. The Walter Cronkites were not known for sensationalizing even JFK's assassination! Today, they'd be showing the video a half dozen times in the same Breaking News!
