The cities proposal comes with it the knowledge that a very few benefit. But that’s also true of every rank. So unless you limit the OT (ie, one Daley every other furlough) you’ll end up with a system dominated by the 25+ year members. Truck 3 will be manned by a 30 year captain, and three other members with a combined 75 years of experience. And can you imagine how motivated these guys will be working overtime in another house? They’re not there to do anything.
The current system is fair to everyone. If you want OT, then bid to the 1st, 2nd or 3rd district. If you rather not, then that is your choice. Do not leave it into a system of seniority base, because it will be exploited by the top 5%.If you rather not, then that is your choice.
