Ameyuki nearly jumped out of her skin when her half-sister burst through the bushes from seemingly nowhere. She was probably hiding from her older brother again. She didn’t really understand their sibling dynamic, maybe it was different because they were full siblings? Would she act the same way when her mother has another foal? That’s if her mother had another foal! She didn’t have enough pairs of eyes to watch two children as attentively as she does now. Even now she could feel her mother’s watchful gaze upon her back. Ameyuki had taken it as a sign of love but one day she would come to realize it as a sign of fear.
Joining in with her sister’s laughter Ameyuki nodded her head in agreement, “Yeah, if it was snowing anymore I might lose you. How come I’m the one that was named after snow? You look more like snow than I do?” To be fair her name meant ‘rain snow’. Her coat was a sooty shade of blue with large white patterns. I guess some of the patterns had flecks of blue-grey within them which might look like raindrops.
Talei then made a remark about being dirty and Ameyuki was slightly surprised. If she had been dirty her mother wouldn’t have let her go play. She would have to be scrubbed sparkling clean before being allowed out in public. Maybe some mothers are just more laid back about these things. Or it could be that Talei’s bright coat didn’t hide the mud and debris so well. Fortunately for her, Mizuki didn’t make her bathe in the sea. Not that you could at the moment since it was frozen solid. She opened her mouth to say something when she heard a voice calling her sister's name, it was Stormy.
The smile fell from Talai’s face before she saw an idea spark in those young eyes and a smirk grew across those lips. ‘Lets give him the run around’ Ameyuki cocked her head to one side in response. She wanted to protest, what if Stormy didn’t understand they were playing? Wouldn’t that hurt his feelings? She didn’t want to upset him and yet she wasn’t brave enough to voice her concerns. Instead she found herself nodding in agreement and waiting for Talei to take the lead. Legs braced and ready to run.
