Re(4): Theres a cancer growing in my brain

I've always had humility, but I have a feisty side and my role in here is to provide a reason for Jim to live. Jim just doesn't bring out humility in people any more than I'm able to bring out reason in him.

But he sure knows AA-speak so wondering if he spends time going to meetings. I did but it didn't work for me. Naltrexone was what the doctor ordered and its a fairly harmless drug, can be taken for years and it tends to curb lots of urges, including gambling addiction, so says the doc working at Clay-Platte MH. I finally quit it among my pile of daily pills, I just didn't feel the need. For me it was kind of like wearing a life vest but after 5 years I just didn't re-up the order. Too bad for the AA guys, living in fear of falling off the wagon for years, thinking the party line that they'll be alcoholics for life but for going to meetings and the grace of god.

A woman in my extended family did it for years, made a career in sponsoring people, and finally she quit going, I guess realizing other things in life after abt 10 years of self deprecation to her group. The old timers maybe enjoy being celebs to their fearful friends. After awhile the urge just disappears and they quit thinking of themselves as weak and sick. Anyway, that's MY story and I'm stickin with it.

Humility generally comes to most people, I think once they/we realize we dont' know everything. There's nothing like haveing your offspring turn out smarter and more well-read than you are. Their capabilities are better, and they dont need your help as much as you need theirs! I started out being better educated than anyone in my family but they are mid career and they have more letters after their names than I do mine and they know shit that I don't.

What did Lord Byron say, "The child is father of the man?"
