HASAN
To the herd,
After some consideration, I have decided I cannot ask any of you to be my co- or sub-leads at this time. I know I am at a disadvantage in my position, given my disability, but it does not sit well with me to rely on others as my crutch. I have learned much from training with Amberlyn and others, and while I would not necessarily turn down freely-offered aid in battle from an able fighter, neither will you see me asking for it. We will remain as one herd, and I will do my best to shoulder the burden of protecting you alone.
While thinking on all this, my mind has often turned to the past. While I only returned to the Forest two years ago, this was my birthplace. My mother, Evren, and her beloved, Persephone, ruled here long ago as equal partners. Capable as they were, the Forest was war-torn during their time. I cannot in good conscience let that happen again, especially when I am in no state to become a military leader.
With all that in mind, I believe the best path forward for the Forest is prevention: defense rather than offence. You will not see me starting fights; you will not see me force-claiming or raiding. You will not see me prostrating myself before kings or waging wars against enemies. We shall remain a neutral party, a place of sanctity and refuge for all, while the other herds continue tearing at each other's throats. We shall defend our own, of course, but it would be foolish of me to raise a hoof against another for any other reason. Equally I ask you all to be welcoming to any who arrive here, no matter your differences. As long as they are on Forest soil, they are afforded guest rites.
I do not intend on being a dictator, however. If ever you feel I have made a poor decision, you are welcome to tell me so. I welcome any and all advice, and may seek out council with the rest of you on important decisions, to be certain I speak for the herd and not just myself. I will do my best to rule through diplomacy. I am your humble servant, and if at any time I or the majority of you feel I can no longer serve you, I will step down.
Baba Yaga: you served the Forest well for years, and I have come to think of you as a friend. You will have learned much from your tenure and I welcome any guidance you have. I do hope you remain with us.
Your guardian,
Hasan
