Tefnut of the Bay
And the gasoline of my soul will come alive.
The happy feelings Tefnut had been experiencing were dashed out. Her skin went from warm with exertion to cold as if water had been thrown over an open flame. Her blue eyes grew wider for a moment before they looked away. A shutter was placed over her gaze as she took the words Rethe spoke and let them all land their mark.
“I didn't know.” Tefnut finally replied, her tail slowly twitching between her hocks. She should have known, or at least tried to learn. Things had happened so fast and now she found herself staring at the ground instead of trying to race with the dark maiden. Licking her lips, Tefnut locked everything inside of her down with thick chains. She wasn't about to act like her birth father did when things weren't sunshine and rainbows. She also wasn't about to explode like Lucifer had a tendency to do. Instead, Tefnut let her eyes go back to Rethe as she stood still. She shifted some, making herself more presentable and able to take verbal barbs easier.
“The new friend is my half sister.” Breathing slowly, Tefnut held back the want to shake her head. There were so many things Tefnut wanted to say. She wanted to explain, but she wasn't about to go into a long winded speech about her sibling. “Her name is Aadrika. I had planned for her to join us in the Dunes when the opportunity to come here arose.” Flicking one ear, Tefnut chewed over something else she wanted to say. “I wanted her to meet you first.”
Tefnut was trying to think, to find the best way to go over what she had inside of her. It was a long shot to fully explain everything without everyone present, but she had to at least cover some of the subject. “And, before someone else has the opportunity to make a mess of something else, I wanted to come to you first.” Taking a breath then, Tefnut twitched slightly as her heart raced in her breast. “The sub-lead Aadrika and I have chosen is a son of Fell. His name is Apex and he will be arriving only after you meet him.” Another breath escaped her lips. “He heard Aadrika and I talking about coming here. He brought up moving here and living with us. I set the stipulation of meeting you as Aadrika and Apex do not wish to cause any strife in this territory.”
Once more the air went quiet as Tefnut fully met Rethe’s eyes. “I chose you that day in the Commons, Rethe. We might be just friends and mostly strangers, but I never wanted to make you uncomfortable.” Tilting her head slightly, the red dun mare scanned the woman before her. “If I need to change things to make being here easier on you, I will. If you want to go back to Salem, I'll follow. My friends are more important to me than any territory I find myself on.”
