Lucifer of the Dunes
And my dice aren't weighted.

Keeping his head lowered so that he could listen and not make her speak louder, Lucifer waited for what Wytche might say. His long and thick tail slowly flicked behind him, tapping on his hocks and making little dust plumes rise from his dark skin. Humming softly, he tried to make himself stay mellow. This was the first time someone would ever hear him hum, but he did it anyway when Wytche spoke. “Sleep.” He rumbled in reply, letting his words flow through the air before he shifted and eyed the children.

Looking at the buckskin and the white children, Lucifer tilted his head to the side. Noticing the one was wet, something internal nudged at him and he slowly stepped closer. Getting close enough to bend down, Lucifer nudged the wet little thing before turning to the other one that had already been cleaned. His hoof placement was gentle, making sure not to step on any of them. His ears were on a swivel, listening to the air around them. He was doing his best to watch over these new lives and the mare that had given birth to them.

As time passed, Lucifer took his time doing something that was rare. He cleaned the white foal, making sure they were warm and poofy from a good scrub. His eyes were softer than ever in that moment as he took his time. His large frame was like a wall around the mare and her children. Those pesky creatures that would come after birth had not come just yet, but Lucifer was watching. He could hear them yipping and coming closer. He wanted to wake Wytche up, but was not quite sure yet. He just stood there until finally, he had to shift his weight.

Aiming a nudge at Wytche, he hoped to wake her, His ears slowly pined as he turned his head to look over his shoulder, seeing the nasty creatures known as coyotes. They were not overly close yet, but in time the small group of two could turn into more. The scent of her blood and newborn foals was like a beacon to these scavengers. “Wytche… please wake up.”
