GUIDELINES
common sense, really
i. the Prairie stands as a symbol of peace and prosperity among the islands
ii. anyone is welcome to live here so long as they do not bring harm to the Prairie or any of it's residents
iii. adventure and exploration is not only allowed, but encouraged! residents are asked to use their better judgement and not travel to places that could bring them harm
iv. the head of the prairie has final say in all prairie matters. the secondary and third positions are not able to be challenged for and are selected by the head
v. the guardians take on a more active role in the prairie; they must protect the inhabitants of the prairie and go on patrols of the prairie borderlines and shore. they can welcome strangers to the prairie and invite anyone to live here, though they must inform one of the leaders of any newcomers or visitors
there's a wind alive in the valley

Bane was at rest, not far off from the stream that his golden sister was exploring, his body relaxed, one hoof tipped, watching a bird of prey circling high in the sky over Luthien. Though he was fully grown now, there was a leanness to him that gave evidence of his youth. His sister had grown into herself far more gracefully than he, but that was not surprising to Bane. From the first, she had always been the bolder and brighter of the two. Sharper of tongue and keener of mind.

That’s not to say that Bane wasn’t independent in his own way, though.

Since they’d been weaned, the two had oft wandered from Lavender’s side, content with one another’s companionship. They loved the rugged plains on the Prairie, and the way the sun painted it red and gold. They loved the clear view of the night sky, and the whispering creek that ran crookedly through the fields. Most of all, they loved the crops of flowers and herbs that grew wild and in abundance, flourishing in the temperate climate and healthy soil.

It was he who heard the approach first - the sound of hoof beats was softened by the rushing waters that Hazel was exploring, and besides that, her depth of focus left her slightly detached. Bane’s ears pricked forward, and he took a few steps forward, scanning the rolling plains of his home.

There, not one but three figures appeared over a rise, and showed no signs of slowing. Bane turned, intending to close the distance between him and his sister, but he wasn’t quite quick enough. Her head snapped up, and water dripping from her muzzle, Hazel caught sight of the figures in the distance, and she bolted, rushing from the water before Bane could reach her.

"Hazel, hold!" he cried in vain, and then the young stallion was racing after his sister. It became clear to him that, evenly matched as they were, he’d be unable to overtake her before she reached the three strangers, especially given that he followed her somewhat erratic path, darting to the side here and there, jumping over a patch of verdant growth.

Bane exhaled a heavy sigh of relief when he caught sight of Lir intercepting the trio running wild, cutting short their reckless rush through the Prairie. It meant by the time Hazel reached them, they’d stopped, and Bane wouldn’t have to watch Hazel taking a stand before them. She was still brimming with indignance though. The run certainly hadn’t done anything to temper her, rather the adrenaline served to sharpen the bite of her voice when she spoke.

"Fools, gallivanting like foals and not taking care to consider what you might be crushing beneath those great clumsy hooves!" Ears turned back, the young mare skirted around the group, and seemingly dismissed them, mismatched eyes scanning the torn up grass, hoping that none of the patches of wild plants that could be found throughout the Prairie.

"Apologies, Lir," Bane said, still breathless, as he drew close, dipping his head toward the stallion that kept their home safe. After a moment, his bright honey brown eyes took in the three young stallions before him. They carried the scent of wood and pine, from the Forest perhaps, or the Thicket. "I apologize for my sister. She feels very deeply about the wildgrowth here. The plants are almost as precious to her as water and air, and in some cases, as vital for life."
